It was as gross as it sounds. I bought a whole watermelon on Friday and left it out on the counter to cut up.
We awoke on Sunday and walked into the kitchen. As soon as we stepped on the tile, we noticed puddles of liquid all over. Strange. Then we saw the watermelon had a crack on it. Didn't think anything of it.
We got ready for the day, and I went to clean it up. It was much, much worse than we thought. It had exploded all over- in the cabinets, on the counter, half way across the kitchen. I had no idea that fruit could explode like that!
I went to pick up the watermelon to throw it away and it, well, basically crumbled. Into a rotten heap of melon. Gross to the max, for sure.
It took a good hour to clean up, along with several rounds of sanitizing. Thank goodness I have a steam mop to ensure cleanliness!
Unfortunately, it ruined two cabinets. Yes, melon juice explosion soaked them and caused the finish to peel off and the wood to warp.
All we could do was laugh (ahem, after I got angry for a few minutes) and realize what a great 1st anniversary story we had on our hands.
I guess the watermelon just wanted to show its excitement for the big day :)
As for the rest of our day, we went to Bed Bath & Beyond to purchase a clock we've wanted to hang in our dining room. The checkout woman asked if I was a bride and I said, "Well, actually, it is our anniversary today." She looked at us and said, "Wow. What a way to spend your anniversary..." all sarcastic like. I just smiled and said how perfect the day has been. Sheesh.
The night before, we went to dinner with our friends Mr. B and his wife. The food was amazing! We had a blast.
And, we exchanged gifts. You'll have to look through the pictures to learn what we gave one another.
First up, a gift from my mom & dad.
It was so sweet of them to think of us!
My dad picked out this McCarty pot and orchid- perfect!
Thank you for thinking of us; it means the world to us both!
The clock from BBB
He's been wanting one since we moved in.
Dad setting it up. (We really could not get by without
And lady waiting patiently for dad to finish.
I also bought Richie a new outfit to wear to dinner.
my wonderful father!)
Richie enjoying the most fantastic picture quality ever experienced.
Naturally, it is an all Polo outfit. He is so handsome!
I'm one lucky girl, for sure!
Out to dinner the night before. Yet another blurry picture.
When will I get that camera already!?
Last night we pulled out the top layer of our cake.
It was almost as good as it was one year ago.
With a sweet toast and shared bites, it was the perfect ending to
our 1st anniversary.
Oh, and want to know what my wonderful husband got for me?
Well....

Happy anniversary! It sounds like you had a wonderful day. I can't wait to see some awesome pictures from your new camera.
Oh, by the way, I also have a steam mop that I love dearly. But I think yours is a newer model cause I don't have all the attachments you have. So now I want one like yours......
Thanks, girl! I feel a little guilty about the camera. Richie was given a bonus for work from the baseball coach, and he said he wanted to use part of it to buy the camera for me for our anniversary. I hate to do that...but I also really want my camera. Hopefully I'll reconcile all these guilty feelings and have pretty new pictures to show soon!
